SMYRNA - Cannon County’s middle grades cross-country teams are having great success under first-year head coach Brian Elrod.

The boys team finished fourth out of 18 teams with 194 points at the Sharp Springs Invitational. They finished behind first-place Oakland Middle (33), Mt. Juliet Middle (72), and Siegel Middle (141).

Austin Duggin, an eighth-grader at Auburn School, finished third overall out of 227 participants with a time of 12:20.52 in the 2-mile run. Teammate Corey Seymour was fourth with a 12:33.66. Also scoring for Cannon County were Tristan Morten (30th, 13:40.23), Blake Bush (74th, 14.36.13) and Brad Vickers (83rd, 14:47.73). Noah Patterson finished 9th overall with a 16:17.30.

The girls finished 10th out of the 17 teams with Hattie Fann leading the team with a 45th place finish out of 197 competitors.

Also scoring for Cannon County were Zettie Elrod (50th, 16:02.17), Tori Knox (56th, 16:11.15), MacKenzie Turney (69th, 16:56.69) and Madison Gaither (80th, 17:30.10).

Also participating for Cannon County were Gretchen Elmy (90th, 18:30.68) and Tera Srader (91st, 18:31.23).
