Meth cooker gets 18 years

Circuit Court action
A methamphetamine cooker received sentences totaling eighteen years after entering guilty pleas. The plea was one of several entered before Judge David Bragg in Circuit Court last week. James Hopkins was charged in one count with initiation of the process to manufacture methamphetamine. Hopkins was also charged with aggravated child abuse for exposing a child to the process of manufacturing methamphetamine.
Under his agreement reached with Assistant District Attorney Trevor Lynch, Hopkins will receive a twelve year sentence on the initiation charge and a six year sentence on the reduced charge of aggravated assault in exchange for his agreement to plead guilty to both charges. Both sentences are to be served consecutively resulting in an eighteen year sentence.
Both sentences are to run consecutive to a sentence Hopkins is currently serving. The sentences will be served through Community Corrections after he has completed his current sentence.

John Carter entered a plea of guilty to the charge of manufacturing methamphetamine under .5 grams and received a six year sentence, a $3,000 fine. The sentence will run consecutive to a sentence Carter is currently serving.

Dustin R. Rogers entered guilty pleas to promoting the manufacture of methamphetamine and evading arrest creating a risk of death or injury. He received a four year sentence in each count to run concurrent with each other. Rogers also agreed he had violated the terms of his probation in another case and was ordered to serve one year of a six year sentence, be placed on probation for the balance of that sentence. His four year sentence on his new charges will run consecutive to his prior sentence.

Lucas L. Dobson agreed he violated the terms of his probation. He was ordered to serve his sentence previously imposed of 10 years and one day.

Andrew S. Asbury agreed he violated his probation. He was released based on the time he had served since his arrest on June 6 and placed back on probation for his original term of four years.

Drug charges
Deputy Randy Wildes observed a gold Nissan Altima traveling west on John Bragg Highway. The car was displaying two registration plates. One was an expired 2013 tag and the other was a dealer's tag in the back window.
The driver, identified as Sonia Lyons, was checked for warrants and Wildes discovered she had two warrants out of Cannon County and two from Rutherford County. A passenger, identified as Maurice Randall Glimps, and Ms. Lyons were instructed to get out of the vehicle.
“We noticed that when we got the subjects out of the vehicle we noticed that they seemed to be very nervous,” said Deputy Wildes, who was joined by Sgt. Tommy Miller.
“Sgt. Miller did get consent from the driver, Mrs. Lyons, to search the vehicle and we located two small baggies of marijuana in her purse. We also located a hand rolled marijuana cigarette in the passenger floor board where Mr. Glips was sitting,” Wildes said.
Lyons was arrested on the warrants and charged with simple possession of marijuana. A release citiation was written for Glimps.


Driving on a revoked
Deputy Mike Hainey was dispatched on the Dollar General Store on Jim Cummings Highway in regards to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot.
The fire was quickly extinquised by Mooretown volunteer firefighter Eric Campbell, who told Hainey that the vehicle's owner had walked back inside the store. Ultimately, Hainey discovered the owner, Janet Marren, inside the store.
“Ms. Marren appeared nervous and stated that she was looking for her boyfiend, Phillip Underwood, who had allegedly driven her there,” Hainey said.
Ultimately, Marren confessed to having driven herself to the store. A records check reveled that she was driving on a revoked licence. She was transformed to the Cannon County Jail where she was charged with making a false report and driving on a revoked license.

Missing golf clubs
Bert Parsley reported that his golf clubs and a plastic swimming pool had fallen out of the back on his truck on Bradyville Road. The pool was recovered, but the golf clubs were not. The clubs, housed in a Pittsburgh Steelers golf bag, included a King Cobra senior set, a Nike Driver and a putter.

Juveniles charged
Two juveniles were charged with DUI and under age drinking following an auto accident on Hollow Spring Road.
