Melton, Jones win in GOP primary

Incumbent Gerald Melton defeated Andy Brunelle to reclaim the public defender’s post in the 16th Judicial District. Melton won 6,893 votes, including Cannon County, to Brunelle’s 5,923 in the Republican Primary Election.

 

In Cannon County, Melton received 690 votes to Brunelle's 146 votes.

 

In the only other contested race, Jennings H. Jones tabbed 437 votes to 198 for Chuck Ward in Cannon County for 16th District Attorney General.

 

District wide, Jones soundly defeated Ward picking up 7,848 votes, 62.21 percent, to Ward’s 4,758, 37.7 percent.

Bill (Whitesell) has done a wonderful job in the office, and I hope to continue his legacy,” said Jones, an assistant district attorney under Whitesell, who is stepping away from the post.

A total of 881 Cannon County voters took part in the Republican Primary Election with 692 voters casting ballots Tuesday with another 189 voting early and absentee. 

 

In Circuit Judge 16th Division Division 1 Jeffery L. Peach received 430 votes and there were 2 write in votes. 

 

Circuit Court Judge 16th Division 2 Nathan Nichols got 608 of 612 votes with the other 4 being write in votes. 

 

Circuit Court 16th Division 3 Keith Siskin with 433 votes to 1 write in vote. 

Chancellor 16th District Howard W. Wilson 404 votes with 1 write in vote. 

 

Anna Pittman received 408 Votes for County Executive in the Republican Primary.
