Martin's Kick Opens Door To Jail Cell

CARLTON D. MARTIN
Carlton Dewayne Martin, 1709 17th Ave. North, Nashville, was charged with Domestic Assault, Aggravated Burglary, Vandalism and Driving While License Suspended by Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Moss on July 26.

Deputy Moss was dispatched to an address on Dewey Bryson Hollow Rd. at 4:35 a.m. on that date in reference to someone attempting to break into the residence. While en route he was informed by Cannon County Dispatch that the person had gained access, engaged in what sounded like a physical altercation with someone inside, and had left in a green Pontiac.

Deputy Mike Smith also responded to the call. Deputy Smith stopped the vehicle around the 2000 block of Locke Creek Rd. Deputy Moss arrived at the scene shortly after Deputy Smith had stopped the vehicle.

Deputy Smith asked the driver, Martin, what had occurred at the residence Martin said he went to see his girlfriend. Martin said when he arrived his girlfriend’s brother was hiding outside and came at him with a gun. Martin said he then kicked the door in and got into an argument with his girlfriend.

Deputy Moss returned to the girlfriend’s resident to speak with her. She stated Martin was her ex-boyfriend and came to the residence and was knocking on the door. She said when she realized who it was she attempted to hide, but Martin saw her through the window. She said Martin then tried to get inside and did so by kicking the door open. She said once he entered Martin hit her with a closed fist.

Deputy Moss observed swelling above the victim’s right eye. She said Martin also threatened to kill her and her family. She also said that before coming to the residence she was at, that Martin had gone to her home in Murfreesboro and broke the door in there as well. Martin was arrested and taken to jail. Bond was set at $11,000. Initial court date is Aug. 7.
