It might be pretty difficult convincing one Cannon County man these days that its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Mims was dispatched to 2210 Old Prospect Rd., Woodbury, to take a theft report on Aug. 3. Upon arrival he spoke with Charles David Jones, who told Mims that is ex-girlfriend, Jeannie Morgan, stole an engagement ring, pearl necklace, pearl earrings and the keys to his truck, along with his house keys.

Jones said he and Morgan had separated, but that he had allowed her to use his truck and house keys until she moved out. Jones told Mims he had given the jewelry to Morgan, but asked for it back the day they separated.

Jones also said Morgan had taken $2,400 from a gun safe in his home. Jones said the engagement ring cost $13,340 and that it was what he wanted returned the most.

Chief Investigator Charlie Wilder followed up on the case on Aug. 4. Wilder met with Morgan at the sheriff's department and she admitted to having possession of the jewelry and that it was at a hotel room in Nashville.

Morgan told Wilder the jewelry was a gift to her and she did not wish to return it. She denied taking or having any cash money belonging to Jones. She gave Wilder Jones' keys and his health care card to return.

On Aug. 5 Wilder received an e-mail and attachment from Morgan. It was the announcement concerning Jones' promotion and their engagement.

Wilder met with Jones on Aug. 6 and gave him the keys, a medical card and an envelope. They discussed the circumstances of the case. Wilder received from Jones the booklet on his gun safe in an attempt to lift fingerprints.
