Lions Play Tonight, Lionettes Season Ends With Loss

20 wins on the season would've meant that the Cannon County Lionettes were headed to the semi-final round of the District 8-AA basketball tournament and an automatic invite to the region tournament in which they hadn't been a part of for the last four seasons. Make it five now as the Dekalb County Lady Tigers hit some big free throws to beat the Lionettes for the third consecutive time this season 37-33. Neither team shot the ball well but the lid was on the basket for Cannon during the second quarter as Dekalb held them scoreless. Dekalb only managed to score three points during the period.
The Lionettes came back from a nine point deficit in the fourth only to see Dekalb quickly maintain the lead. The Tigerettes went 6-8 from the free throw line in the closing moments for the win.
The Lionettes finish the season 19-11. Dekalb moves on to the semifinals where they will meet the number one seeded Macon County at Tennessee Tech Friday in Cookeville.

Tonight the Cannon County Lions who have had the week off since taking third in the final season regular standings will meet the Dekalb County Boys for the third time this season. Cannon won both meetings. In January Luke Alexander's dunk right before the buzzer put an exclaimation point on a 61-53 win in Smithville. The second meeting ended in a runaway 75-43 win for the Lions in Woodbury earlier this month.
Tonight's game will be played at Watertown. The winner will advance to the semifinals and get an automatic bid to the region tournament.
