In comparison, Thursday night's second round District 8-AA tournament game between Cannon and Dekalb was nothing like the February 4th meeting when Cannon scored a big 73-42 runaway victory over their rivals. Cannon escaped Thursday's contest winning 41-39. The Lions moved on to an automatic bid in the region tournament as a result.
The Lions led most of the game but Dekalb caught up and switched the lead after hitting a free throw and a two point shot stemming from a technical foul called against Lavell Rogers for shoving off a Dekalb player as he attempted to help Rogers off the floor in the third quarter. From there it was back and forth. The Lions opened up a six point lead with 16 seconds left. Dekalb would go on to score four points in a row but ran out of time outs as time expired giving the Lions their 18th win of the year.
Next up the Lions will play second seeded York Institute in the semi finals Saturday night at the Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. Tipoff is slated for 9:00 p.m.
