A.J. Daniel has turned in an All-Tournament effort in the District 8-AA Tournament. He led the Lions with 16 points against Upperman.

SPARTA – As good as Cannon County was in its District 8-AA Tournament win against DeKalb County Thursday, it was as bad against Upperman in the semifinals Saturday.

The Lions (25-7) fell behind early and never recovered on their way to a 64-46 setback against the Bees (23-6).

Cannon County will face Macon County (17-13) in the 8-AA consolation game at White County High School Tuesday at 6 p.m.

“We just didn’t execute the game plan and we didn’t follow the scouting report,” Lions Head Coach Matt Rigsby said. “We just didn’t play well enough to beat a team like Upperman tonight. We have to bounce back and play well in the consolation game. We are still trying to make sure we put ourselves in the best position possible for the region.”

The Lions have assured themselves a berth in the Region 4-AA Tournament and will play on the road Saturday against either Bledsoe County or Signal Mountain.

Junior guard A.J. Daniel, who has turned in an All-Tournament performance in his first two games, led the Lions with 16 points. Cory Henley added 14 and Jacob Nave scored eight. No other Lion had more than two points.
