Lions Capture Third Place In Sonic Shootout, Ruehlen Sets School Record For Treys

SPARTA — Cannon County was led by three players in double figures as the Lions won third place in the Sonic Shootout tournament at White County High School Wednesday.

Cody Ruehlen and Justin Davenport combined for 50 of Cannon County's 80 points as the Lions defeated McMinn County 80-63.

Ruehlen broke the school record for the number of 3-point goals scored in a game as he hit eight treys (8 out of 10) during his game-high 30-point performance.

Cannon County rallied to victory after trailing 14-13 at the end of the opening period. The Lions led 30-25 at the half. Their lead stayed at five after three quarters (50-45) before they blew out McMinn County 30 to 18 in the final quarter.

The Lions improved to 9-4 on the season. They resume regular season action next Tuesday at home against Warren County.
