Cannon County came close to a sweep of 8-AA foes this week.

After turning back Central Magnet in a thriller Wednesday they had another chance against Smith County Friday.
The game was tied 4-4 through three innings but the Owls scored two in the fifth and held on for a 6-4 win. 

Macy Williams led the Lionettes with a 2-for-4 performance that included two runs scored. Sarah Hunt and Ally Parton were each 1-for-3 with a double. Macy Clements, Livia Walker and Cheyenne Fann also had base hits for the Lionettes. 

Cannon County erased a 3-1 deficit with a three-run fourth to take a 4-3 lead. 

Hunt doubled to start the inning and came around to score on Clement’s single. Williams singled and scored on Walker’s base hit.

Fann’s base knock plated Walker for the third run of the inning as the Lionettes felt they were on the verge of another comeback. 

Starting pitcher Kristen Hale battled, but Smith County finally broke through against her with two in the bottom of the fifth.

“It was another tough, competitive game,” Cannon County coach Dorinda Walker said. “We didn’t make a lot of physical mistakes. Smith County is a good team and they came through with some clutch hits in that fifth inning.”
The Lionettes are at Upperman Tuesday and at Macon Co. Thursday.
