Maybe some of you think it's an impossible task, because crystal meth labs keep showing up like poisonous mushrooms, more and more in Woodbury and other cities of the country.

Well I am writing this article because wanting to give some hope to anyone that wants to do something about it. I am from Woodbury and I have been living here since 2004. I like my city (Woodbury) and the people in it. I know many of you are concerned about the problem of crystal meth, but again what can we do about it, how can we help the police department in our community.

Well here is the answer, first I am part of the Drug Free World Foundation and what we do in our foundation is educate anyone on drugs. We give information on the effect of the drugs, and what it does to the body and the mind. We also have a booklet that states the effect of 11 of the most used drugs (Marijuana, alcohol, ecstasy, cocaine and crack cocaine, crystal meth and methamphetamine, inhalants, heroin, LSD, prescription drug abuse). We give those booklets to the students and anyone that wants to know more about it. Everything is free. The young suffer more illnesses, miss more days at school and are more prone to engage on criminal conduct. It is, therefore, vital to reach young people before they start on drugs, but how?

How to talk to young people about drugs, and know they will listen, is the challenge facing educators.

The foundation for a drug free world provides tools that holds the attention of young people, debunking common myth and empowering them to resist peer pressure to use drugs.

My husband and I have been using the Truth About Drugs program in many schools all over Tennessee. The result we have received many comments for our efforts such as saying "Thank you for giving me this information, I had no idea that drugs were so dangerous and destructive" etc.

The last county we went to was Campbell County where crystal meth is highly used. One of the student came to me to tell me how he liked the seminar because it was helping him to stay drug free. He said his dad was a drug addict and he did not want to end up like him, and that the information we were giving him was helping him to stay drug free. You all know he is not the only one in this situation.

Our program is being used internationally and has created miracles in many part of the world.

We can do something about it in Cannon County. We can help our kids to stay drug free and live a happy life. We need to educate our kids on what drugs do; just telling them to say no is not enough. They need to understand why they need to say no.

I don't know about you but I don't want to see my grand children living in a world of drugs because I didn't do anything about it when I should have.

So if you want to know more about what you can do, please look at the website www.drugfreesouth.org or call me: Anne Vallieres 615-563-4292 or e-mail to me: thetasaver@dtccom.net and maybe with your help we can reduce drug usage.
