Project Cannon Cares continues to collect items to deliver to victims of last week's tornadoes.

Several items have been added to the list of needed materials:

AA and D batteries, battery powered lanterns, power strips, work gloves, underwear for men, women & kids, socks for adults & kids, ponytail holders, combs & brushes, wash cloths & towels, alcohol, peroxide, blankets, bleach & detergent, all size ziploc bags, can openers, dish cloths, gatorade,
pop tarts, jello or pudding cups, fruit cups, juice pouches and sweetner packets.

Residents in and around Cannon County will have an opportunity to assist those who were devastated by the recent tornadoes that swept through the Southeast and claimed more than 300 lives in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia last week.

Shannon Davenport is heading up "Project Cannon Cares," to assist those in need in the Tanner, Ala., area, which is near Athens and Huntsville. Davenport said there are several tractor pulling friends who are helping in the relief efforts.

Citizens are encouraged to bring a variety of items to the Community Center Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m-to-7 p.m. The items will be loaded onto a semi Friday morning and transported to Alabama.

"Project Cannon Cares will showcase what big hearts we have here in Cannon County," Davenport said. "The Red Cross is doing a great job, but every bit helps and this is one way we can help those who have lost everything."

Items needed are: baby items, diapers, wipes, non-perishable food items, children's toys, paper products, toiletries, flashlights, batteries, candles, lighters, water, tarps, etc.
