The Cannon County Historical Society will meet Turesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cannon County Senior Center, located at 609 Lehman St., in the small dining area.

Guests will enter under the awning, said President Joe Davenport.

Britt Knox will be the guest speaker. Britt and his wife, Faye Northcutt-Knox, are residents of Woodbury. Britt is the son of the late Jack Knox, who was the Nashville Banner’s political cartoonist, and is son-in-law of Nolan “Dude” Northcutt.

Britt is a long-time student of the “War Between the States.” His principal interest is Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest.
Britt’s presentation will center on Forrest’s activities in the later phase of the Civil War with emphasis on his command of the “Rear Guard” as the Army of Tennessee departed from the state. Also, his participation in the Columbia area and his wounding will be a major part of the presentation.

Britt’s Vietnam experience was recently featured in a two-part account by Dan Whittle in the Cannon Courier.
Refreshments will be served at 6:30 with Knox’s presentation starting at 7 p.m.
