The cause and manner of death of a young Cannon County man who died over a year ago has been determined by the Tennessee State Medical Examiner.

According to the autopsy report, the cause of death of Brian Mark Kite was “drowning” and the manner “accidental.”

Kite, who was 18 at the time of his death, was a former Cannon County High School student.

Kite's body was found in the Stones River just off Highway 53N (Gassaway Road) on October 18 of last year.

He had been reported as missing by his family 10 days earlier. He had left his home the night of Oct. 8, 2011 to attend the Homecoming game with his girlfriend.

According to reports at the time, Kite’s family last saw him getting into a silver car on Oct. 8, 2010. The owner of the silver car told authorities he dropped him off on Lester Street in Woodbury. He was reportedly last seen at McDonald’s.

Although the medical examiner determined the manner of death was accidental, the case remains open, according to law enforcement officials. The medical examiner only makes a determination on that evidence which he is able to observe and analyze.

Kite suffered from Asperger's Disorder, which is a form of autism, as well as ADHD and bipolar disorder, and was on medication.
