Judge Melton Presides Over Lengthy Criminal Docket



Judge Susan Melton presided over a lengthy General Sessions Criminal Court docket Tuesday.

Judge Melton regularly hears three General Sessions dockets each week, one for civil cases, one for adult criminal cases, and one for juvenile cases, which can involve both criminal offenses committed by persons under the age of 18 or custody hearings.

The judge usually hears civil and juvenile cases nearly every week of the year. Criminal cases are often scheduled only three times per month at the behest of the District Attorney's Office.

The results of some of the cases on the Criminal docket for Tuesday are as follows:

• Christopher Anthony Adams, charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Steven J. Ballard, charged with driving on suspended license, 1st offense and violation of probation, 1st offense, was appointed an attorney, assessed an administrative fee of $25, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Justin Tyler Barrett, charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule III drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license, 3rd offense, was reset for Sept. 6.

• William Richard Barrett, charged with driving on a suspended license, 3rd offense, violation of ignition-interlock requirement, expired registration and financial responsibility, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Jessica Bates forfeited a cash bond on a worthless check charge and had the charges dismissed.

• Eric Daniel Bogle entered a conditional plea of guilty to charges of domestic assault and child abuse. His case was continued for 12 months subject to good and lawful behavior, payment of court costs, attending a domestic violence prevention course, and reporting to probation monthly. It will then be retired.

• Cory Steven Bohanan, charged with driving on a suspended license, pled guilty to a reduced charge of driving without a license. He was given a 30-day suspended sentence, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, fined $2 and ordered to pay court costs.

• Clifford Wayne Brothers pled guilty to resisting arrest and was given a six-month suspended sentence and placed on probation for six months. He also entered a conditional plea of guilty to a charge of simple assault. That charge was continued for 11 months, 29 days subject to good and lawful behavior. Brother was assessed court costs on both cases.

• Cody Blake Brown, charged with criminal trespass, was appointed the public defender, assessed a $25 administrative fee, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Nicholas James Butcher entered a condition plea of guilty to domestic assault. His case was continued for 11 months, 29 days subject to good and lawful behavior, payment of court costs, attending a domestic violence prevention course, and reporting to probation monthly. It will then be retired.

• Brandy R. Campbell entered conditional pleas of guilty to charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. The case was continued for 12 months subject to good and lawful behavior. She was also placed on probation for six months.

• Shauna Carrick entered a condition plea of guilty to theft under $500. The case was condition for 11 months, 29 days subject to good and lawful behavior, payment of court costs and restitution and reporting to probation monthly.

• Timothy Dean Clark, charged with domestic assault and contempt of court (bond condition violation), was reset for Aug. 9.

• Alyssa Marie Coleman, charged with driving on a suspended license and aggravated domestic assault, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Tiffany Nicole Cross-Mullins pled guilty to the charge of solicitation of making a false report. She was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for 10 months, 16 days and ordered to pay court costs.

• Phillip Dinovo, charged with theft under $500, failed to appear and a Capias was issued for his arrest.

• Jimmy Lynn Driver, Jr. entered conditional pleas of guilty to the charges of theft over $500 and criminal trespass. His cases were conditioned for six months subjection to good and lawful behavior and payment of the litigation tax.

• Jeremy Wayne Duke, charged with driving on a suspended license, failed to appear. He is incarcerated in an out-of-county facility and his case with be reset to a later date.

• Joseph Michael Duke entered conditional pleas of guilty to the charges of harassment and criminal trespass. His cases were conditioned for 12 months subject to good and lawful behavior and payment of court costs.

• Robert James Easterwood failed to appear on a charge of driving on a suspended license and a Capias was issued for his arrest.

• Bethany H. Tate Elrod pled guilty to a charge of possession of a Schedule IV drug. She was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, and assessed court costs. Elrod also pled guilty to a charge of theft under $500. She was given a 11 months, 29 day suspended sentenced and placed on probation for 11 months, 29 days. She was also ordered to pay restitution.

• Courtne Grayson Elrod, charged with criminal trespass, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Jimmy L. Estes pled guilty to the charge of aggravated criminal trespass, was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, ordered to serve 56 days in the Cannon County Jail, given credit for time served, placed on probation for 10 months, three days, and assessed court costs. Estes also pled guilty to the charge of vandalism, was given an 11 month, 29 days suspended sentence, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, and ordered to pay $250 restitution. His probation sentences will run consecutive to each other.

• Regina Farless, failed to appear on a worthless check charge and violation of probation, four counts. A Capias was issued for her arrest.

• Robert Blake Foster entered a conditional plea of guilty to domestic assault. His case was continued for 11 months, 29 days subject to good and lawful behavior. He was also ordered to pay court costs.

• Brian Wayne Freeman had a charge of violation of probation, 1st offense, dismissed without cost.

• Shiney Topaz Gibbs entered a conditional plea of guilty to the charge of livestock at large (horses). Her case was conditioned for six months subject to good and lawful behavior.

• Jerry Ray Gunter had a charge of possession of Schedule III drugs dismissed without cost.

• Nathan Carl Hale, charged with DUI 2nd Offense, was appointed an attorney, assessed a $25 administrative fee and reset for Sept. 6.

• Collin Lewis Hanson entered a conditional plea of guilty to the charge of vandalism under $500. His case was continued for six months subject to good and lawful behavior and payment of the litigation tax.

• Barry Tracy Harris, charged with DUI 4th Offense and speeding (90/55) was reset for Sept. 6.

• Laura Y. Hedgepath pled guilty to the charge of possession of Schedule II drugs (morphine). She was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, fined $750 and ordered to pay court costs.

• Chadwick Dwayne Herrod pled guilty to the charge of driving on a suspended license, 2nd offense. He was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days in the Cannon County Jail, ordered to serve the entire sentence, assessed court cost had had his licensed revoked for one year.

• Kayla B. Hickey, charged with driving on a suspended license, simple possession of Schedule II drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, was appointed the public defender and reset for Sept. 6.

• James A. Hodges, charged with disorderly conduct, was appointed the public defender, assessed an administrative fee of $25, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Jeffery Michael Hodges, charged with aggravated burglary and theft under $500, was reset for Aug. 9.

• Linda C. Hughes pled guilty to the charge of theft under $500. She was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for 11 months, 10 days, ordered to serve 19 days in the Cannon County Jail, given credit for time served, and order to pay $650 restitution. A charge of criminal trespass was dismissed without cost.

• Wendy Elizabeth Hurst, charged with driving on a suspended license and failure to notify or an accident, was reset for Aug. 16.

• Charles D. Johnson, Jr. pled guilty to DUI 1st Offense. He was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was also ordered to serve two days in the Cannon County Jail, pay court costs and had his drivers license revoked for one year. Johnson also pled guilty to perjury. He was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, and ordered to serve 120 days in jail. He also pled guilty to a charge of resisting arrest and received a six month suspended sentence and six months probation.

• Jonathan Shane Kennedy, failed to appear on a driving on a revoked license charge. A Capias was issued for his arrest.

• Joseph Eric Kile pled guilty to two counts of theft under $500. He was given suspended sentences of 11 months, 29 days on each count and placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He will serve his probation periods consecutively. He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution to the victim.

• Kristoffer Bryce King pled guilty to simple possession of Schedule drugs (marijuana). He was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, fined $250 and assessed court costs.

• Floyd David Kirby pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was sentenced to serve 20 days in jail. Upon release he will be placed back on probation for 17 months, 29 days. He was also assessed court costs.

• Darrell W. Lambert forfeited a cash bond on a charge of passing a worthless check and his case was dismissed.

• Clifton Wayne Mankin, Jr. entered a conditional plea of guilty to violation of an order of protection, two counts. The case was retired for 12 months subject to good and lawful behavior, payment of costs and contact probation once per month.

• Billy F. Markum entered a conditional plea of guilty domestic assault. His case was continued for 11 months, 29 days subject to good and lawful behavior, payment of court costs, and reporting to probation monthly.

• Troy Michael McBratnie pled guilty to a charge of driving without a license. He was given a 30-days suspended sentence and placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was also fined $2 and ordered to pay court costs.

• Michael Shane McClure pled guilty to the charge of criminal impersonation. He was given a partially suspended sentence of six month, ordered to serve 19 days and possession of drug paraphernalia, and placed on probation for five months, 11 days. He was also assessed court costs. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed without cost.

• Thomas Keith McCullough pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve his entire sentence.

• Richard McLaughlin, charged with DUI 2nd offense, driving on a revoked license and violation of the implied consent law, violation of the seatbelt and open container laws, was reset for Oct. 11.

• David William McPeak pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve his entire sentence. Upon release he will be placed back on probation for 17 months, 28 days. He was also ordered to pay court costs, fines and restitution. A charge of failure to appear was bound over to the September 2011 term of the Cannon County Grand Jury.

• Melissa Carol McTaggart entered a conditional plea of guilty to public intoxication. Her case was continued for six months subject to good and lawful behavior and monthy contact with probation service.

• Aaron Vincent Moon pled guilty to driving on a revoked license, 2nd offense. He was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was ordered to serve four days in jail and pay a $100 fine.

• Timmy Wayne Mount, charged with possession of Schedule II drugs for resale, possession of Schedule III drugs for resale, possession of Schedule IV drugs for resale and fraudulent use of a debit or credit card, two counts, was appointed the public defender, assessed a $25 administrative fee and reset for Aug. 2.

• Nicole D. Muncey, charged with violation of probation, 2nd offense, failed to appear. A Capias was issued for her arrest.

• Michael A. Murphy pled guilty to violation of probation, 3rd offense. His probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve his entire sentence, 349 days, and released on time served.

• David Andrew Nettles, charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Kyle J. Ortkiese, charged with simple possession of Schedule IV drugs and disorderly conduct, was reset for Aug. 23.

• Terri Lynn Ortkiese, charged with joyriding, driving on a revoked license and violation of the registration law, was reset for Aug. 2.

• Amy G. Parker, charged with stalking, had the case retired for one year, after which time it will be dismissed without cost. She is to have no contact with the victim and report to probation monthly.

• Chase Wayne Pelham, charged with introduction of contraband into a penal institution, was dismissed without cost.

• Dewey Raymond pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was sentence to serve 30 days in the county jail. Upon release he will be placed back on probation for 15 months, 29 days. He was also ordered to pay court costs and fines.

• Douglas Allen Rayner pled guilty to driving without a license. He was given a 30 day suspended sentence, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, fined $2 and ordered to pay court costs.

• Thomas Wade Reed pled guilty to two counts of domestic assault. He received sentences of 11 months, 29 days on each count. He was ordered to serve 50 days in the county jail. He will serve consecutive probation periods of 10 months, 9 days and 11 months, 29 days.

• John Richard Reeves pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve his original sentence.

• Leonard A. Reynolds, charged with driving on a revoked license, was reset for Sept. 6.

• Charles Ray Roberts, Jr. pled guilty to violation of probation. His probation was revoked and he was ordered to serve his original sentence. Upon release he will be placed back on probation for 11 months, 29 days. He was also ordered to pay court costs, fines and restitution.

• Golden Arnold Robertson, charged with public intoxication, was appointed the public defender, assessed a $25 administrative fee, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Ricky A. Rogers, charged with driving on a suspended license, was appointed the public defender, assessed a $20 administrative fee, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Dallas Jay Rogers, charged with domestic assault and driving on a suspended license, two counts, left the court proceedings before his case was called. A Capias was issued for his arrest.

• Kayla Rena Sanders, charged with assault, was reset for Sept. 6.

• Glenn Richard Smotherson, charged with domestic assault, was retired for six months subject to good and lawful behavior. If all conditions are met the case will be dismissed without cost.

• James Allen Speed, charged with domestic assault, was appointed an attorney, assessed a $25 administrative fee, and reset for Aug. 2.

• Cynthia Darnail Taylor pled guilty to domestic. She was given a partially suspended of 11 months, 29 days and placed on probation for 11 months, 8 days.

• Josh Alan Thrower, charged with driving on a revoked license, 2nd offense, was reset for Aug. 2.

• David Estil Tipton, charged with DUI, was reset for Aug. 23.

• Lori Ann Watson, charged with DUI and violation of the implied consent, financial responsibility and seatbelt laws, was appointed the public defender, assessed a $20 administrative fee, and reset for Sept. 6.

• Ashley Nicole Wilmouth, charged with joyriding, driving without a license and violation of the insurance and registration laws, was reset for Sept. 16.

• Stephanie L. Wilson pled guilty to public intoxication. She was given a 30 days suspended sentence, placed on probation for an equal amount of time, fined $25 and ordered to pay court costs. A contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge was dismissed.

• Timmy Hershell Wilson pled guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, order to serve 17 days in jail, placed on probation for 11 months, 12 days and assessed court costs.

• Jonathan B. Womack, charged with worthless check and violation of probation, failed to appear. A Capias was issued for his arrest.

• Shannon Renee Young pled guilty to violation of probation. Her probation was revoked and he was placed back on probation for 10 months, 17 days. A charge of introduction of contraband into a penal institution was dismissed without cost.

• Toby Lynn Young, charged with driving on a suspended license, evading arrest by a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of the registration, insurance and helmet laws, was reset to a later date. He is incarcerated in an out-of-county facility.

• Justin P. Richardson pled guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct. He was given a 30 day suspended sentence and placed on supervised probation. He was also assessed court costs.
