John Griffin Ferrell, 97, died Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Stones River Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Cannon County, he was a resident of Woodbury.

Survivors include a son, John (Mildred) Ferrell of Woodbury; three grandchildren, Bill Ferrell of Woodbury, Bob Ferrell of Woodbury and Beth (Anthony) Prater of Woodbury; and two great grandchildren, Johnathon and Trenton Ferrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ike Ferrell and Idella Campbell Ferrell; wives, Mary Gilley Ferrell and Gladys Nadine Jones Ferrell; brothers, G.D., Ireland, Lanius and Gray Ferrell and his sisters, Lela Ford, Helen Chumbley and Hannah Gunter.

A member of the Simmons Chapel Methodist Church, he was a farmer and was retired from Armour Creamery.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 with Bro. Howard Knox officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011.

Pallbearers: Melvin Ferrell, Verble Ferrell, Roy Ferrell, Jackie Francis, Bobby Joe Young, Noah Deberry.
