JL, Lionettes qualify for state tournaments

The Cannon County Junior Lion and Lionette cross country team qualified for state, while the Lionettes soccer and volleyball teams wrapped up the season.

The Junior Lions and Lionettes raced again at Macon County on Oct. 10 with a state berth on the line. Both teams once again qualified for state for the third time in the three years of the program's existence.

The Lionettes won the overall region title with Zettie Elrod and Amanda Blanco finishing in the top 10, while the Lions finished fourth overall in the region with Duncan Cook and Tyler Southworth completing the race in the top 10.
The state meet will take place in Knoxville on Oct. 24.

Soccer and Volleyball
The volleyball team ended the season in the District 8AA tournament first round loss to Livingston on Oct. 5 at Upperman.
The Lionettes soccer team ended the regular season with a 12-2 loss at DeKalb County on Oct. 6, and 2015 ended with a 5-4 overtime loss to York in the opening round of the District 8A-AA tournament on Oct. 10. Livia Walker scored all six goals in the two matches last week.
