Mr. Jerry Smithson, 76, of Woodbury passed away on May 8, 2015. He was born in Woodbury on February 12, 1939. His parents were the late Leon Smithson and Christine Gaither Ash. He was also preceded by his daughter, Nicole Smithson and brothers, Charles Arthur Smithson, Donnie Smithson and Leon "Tommy" Smithson, Jr.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff Smithson of Hohenwald and Derek (Stacey) Smithson of Manchester; brother, Drennan (Faye) Smithson of Readyville; sisters, Linda Haley and Amelia "Amy" Henderson both of Woodbury; precious granddaughter, Kensey Smithson; sisters-in-law, Ellen "Chick" Smithson of Woodbury and Cheryl (Ronnie) Johnson of Readyville and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smithson was a graduate of Woodbury Central High School in the Class of 1957. After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy and proudly served his country for 8 years. During that time he was assigned to the USS Bennington and to an aircraft group. He returned home and found work as a truck driver with Yellow Freight. He retired with 30 years service. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local Chapter 480.

Jerry was always physically active and enjoyed horse riding. He and fellow members of the Moose Lodge in Murfreesboro were always planning and figuring out how to go on golfing trips several times a year. Jerry was always looking out for his neighbors, especially widows, he would take time to mow their yard, clean up limbs, cut and haul wood or anything else he thought would help. Family and friends all knew and liked to joke about how immaculate he kept his house, yard and truck. It has been said you could eat off the floor in his garage. Jerry was always quick with a smile and loved to laugh. He never missed watching 60 Minutes and Law & Order. He loved gospel and country music. He was a long time member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 3-8 pm and on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 12-1 pm. Funeral services will follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be in Riverside Garden. Michael Lyman Lorance will officiate. Pallbearers will be Greg Smithson, Scott Smithson, Alan Smithson, Bill Hester, Andy Smithson and Chad Evans. The family requests memorial donations to the fund that was started in his daughter's name, The Nicole Smithson Memorial Field Fund at the local baseball fields.
