DAVID HUNTER

This week is Thanksgiving, which means good food, wonderful family time and a chance to recharge the batteries with some well-deserved time off.

For me, it also means I turn a year older with my birthday happening during the same time. As tradition, here are my 10 birthdays wishes for the next year.

1. Hoping for a chance for a district title and beyond for all the Cannon County athletic teams during the rest of the school year.

2. A successful first season for the Cannon County Middle Grade basketball team, especially without issues either on or off the floor.

3. A chance for all the CCHS seniors to enjoy their final few months as a high school student. It could be the best time of their lives, while thinking about their next move in life.

4. Another Super Bowl championship for the New England Patriots. Hopefully this time without any issues either on or off the field.

5. My only non-sports wish is for this nation to come together as one and put their differences aside since the election is over. By the way, this goes for both sides.

6. Cannon County is blessed with the best fans in the state, who always support each sport, regardless of their record. I hope it continues, and the new CCHS student section at Robert A. Harris Gymnasium gets filled up and becomes very loud, while being respectful of the officials and the opponents. I know first-hand what can happen if being disrespectful during a game. A nice trip to the Principal's office.

7. My college alma mater, MTSU sending both basketball teams to the NCAA Tournament, and finally Cannon Courier Hall of Famer Rick Insell leads the Lady Raiders to an opening round tournament win for the first time in an awhile.

8. The CCHS basketball teams improve from last season, and they have a chance to compete in the district and region, and maybe a trip back to the Murphy Center for the state tournament.

9. Next year, CCHS will play in new districts depending on the sport. I hope for a seamless transition, and opportunity to keep longtime rivalries, while developing new ones.

0. A safe and wonderful holiday season for everybody, and a huge thank you to everyone who makes my job very easy daily. I also want to thank you the readers for the support and the kind words to me and the rest of the Cannon Courier staff. Without you, we would not be here, and we are very thankful of the support each week.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all.
