Huffington to celebrate World Peace Days

Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Huffington Post is scheduled as the headline speaker for the first ever World Peace Day celebration, to be held Saturday, September 21 at the Isha Institute of Inner-Sciences in McMinnville.

 

Huffington’s appearance will entail having a conversation with Isha Foundation founder, Sadhguru J. Vasudev, renowned Indian yogi and visionary.

 

This special talk by Huffington and Sadhguru is part of a full day of music, meditation and celebration to promote world peace by the Isha Foundation, an international non-profit human service organization. The event is designed promote global unity in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. From 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, presentations by prominent speakers and thought leaders on world peace will be featured, followed by a group meditation.  From 6:00-7:30 p.m., the event will conclude with an outdoor concert by the L.A.-based alt rock band The Mowgli’s.

 

Named in 2013 by Forbes as one of the World’s Most Powerful Women, Arianna Huffington was also named twice to the Time 100, Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. In May 2005, she launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that quickly became one of the most widely read, linked to and frequently cited media brands on the Internet. In 2012, the site won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. Huffington is also a nationally syndicated columnist and author of 13 books.

 

 Sadhguru J. Vasudev is a contemporary mystic rooted as strongly in worldly and pragmatic matters as he is in inner experience and wisdom. Named one of India’s 50 most influential people, he has addressed prominent global forums on issues as diverse as socio-economic development, leadership and spirituality. He has served as delegate to the United Nations Millennium Peace Summit and the World Peace Congress and has been a special invitee to the World Economic Forum (2006-2009), the Australian Leadership Retreat (2006) and TED (2009). His interviews are featured in The New York Times, BBC, Bloomberg, CNNI and CNBC. He is the author of several books, the subject of four books and co-author of Amazon’s Bestseller “Midnights with the Mystic.”

 

The Isha Foundation contacted WCTE-TV/PBS to help cover the World Peace Day event. The station will be taping Huffington’s conversation with Vasudev, interviewing attendees and the performance by the Mowglis. In addition, WCTE’s President and CEO, Becky Magura, will moderate the student and the speaker panels.

 

“WCTE helps our region explore the world but it also helps the rest of the country explore the amazing people and events we have right here in our Upper Cumberland,” commented Desirée Duncan, Manager of Production and Content for WCTE.  “The fact that such a diverse and internationally known peace conference is happening in our back yard is inspiring.”

 

Other notable speakers at World Peace Day will include Sandy Tolan, journalist, teacher and radio producer for NPR; Elizabeth Lindsey, award-winning filmmaker and first female Fellow of the National Geographic Society; and Kathleen Koch, best-seller author, journalist, and former correspondent for CNN.
