Fred "Freddie" Edward Fann, Sr.

Fred "Freddie" Fann, Sr. passed away Monday, Dec. 02, 2019 at his home in Cannon Co. He was 76.

Most knew Freddie as the suspender wearing go to guy for all thing's bee keeping. He could usually be found at grandchildren's ballgames or at Hardees on Saturday mornings. Through the years he was a devoted husband, great father who loved his grandchildren, he owned ribbon winning Tennessee Walking Horses, had a diverse work career, was active in his community, was a well-known bird dog trainer and master beekeeper.

Freddie was born on October 2, 1943 in Cannon County to parents Fred Morgan Fann and Kathryn Mullinax Fann. He grew up in the hills and hollers between Woodbury and Auburntown. He was an Auburn graduate and played basketball there. After graduation, Freddie joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. After the service Freddie worked at the Bank of Commerce. Bill Smith would often dispatch Freddie to Murfreesboro to fetch enough cash to cover the Friday payrolls of Colonial Corp. and other employers in Woodbury in his old Rambler. Freddie married Patricia Tucker and they moved to Phenix City Alabama were Freddie operated heavy equipment building roads. Freddie & Pat returned to Woodbury after starting a family and he landed a job at Colonial Corp. where he spent 15 years. Adding a second son to the family, Freddie became very active in Dixie Youth baseball helping build the local program and coaching for many years. Freddie was regularly invited to the principal's office as happens in raising mischievous sons.

He left Colonial Corp and took a sales job to allow more time for his passion of raising and training bird dogs. He trained many dogs in the area, was active in field trials and served as President of the local chapter of Quail Unlimited. After working and retiring from Bemis Packaging, Freddie had to give up training bird dogs after developing COPD. He developed a passion for bee keeping, became a master beekeeper and mentored many people in the area. His honey was sought out by people from many different states. He was a member of Midway Church of Christ.
