The Tennessee Division of Forestry ask everyone to be careful with fireworks this July 4th holiday.

Normally this time of the year the grass is green and the humidity is high so that fireworks are not likely to start a wildfire.

However, due to the drought conditions that we are currently experiencing the woods and fields are extremely dry and will be easily ignited by bottle rockets, roman candles or any type of fireworks and these fires because of the low fuel moisture could spread rapidly and be difficult to control.  

We urge everyone to consider waiting until we have received sufficient rainfall to green up the vegetation before shooting off their July 4th fireworks.
