Everett art exhibit opens

An exhibit of works by Jim Everett is on view at the Arts Center of Cannon County through July 10.

Jim Everett combines wood burning, relief carving, and his intarsia-inspired style to create spectacular works of art. From modest sized plaques to full door-sized pieces, Jim’s style is all his own.

Never using stains, Jim relies on the natural variations in the wood itself to provide the tones needed to tell his artistic story. Jim uses cedar wood for its variety of colors and for the patina the wood takes on as it ages, making his work heirloom quality. He often gathers scraps of wood to create his palette. He also collects knots and uses their unique characteristics to create eyes for the animals and people in his work. From the collection of colors he begins to piece his work together. He not only takes great care in his choice of materials but also in their arrangement, using the seams and spaces between the wood pieces to add greater depth to his work.

Jim is motivated to create beautiful work for its own sake. He also will build a piece to fit a client’s request. When interviewing a client he closely follows what they say and how they act in order to create a work that will best bring their ideas into reality. From custom doors to kitchen cabinets, Jim can make it happen and make it happen in a magical way.

With almost 20 years of practice under his belt, Jim’s self-taught artistic style captures the imagination and delights the eye. Jim has always enjoyed being an artist, including painting and photography, but he has found even greater joy in creating works in his intarsia-inspired style. Jim’s work is not only visually appealing; he uses his skills to make an emotional impact on viewers.
