Erin McReynolds leads CC to victory

With five district losses on the season already, Cannon County under-stands the magnitude of each game ahead to get back in the district race.

The Lionettes scored 10 unanswered points to set the tone at the start of the second half leading Cannon County past visiting Macon County 51-45 on Tuesday.

This is the first district sweep of the year for the Lionettes. They defeated Macon County 70-44 on the road Dec. 9, 2014.

"It's a good win for us at home and it gives us a tiebreaker over somebody in this district, and this district is crazy every night," head coach Michael Dodgen said.

Although the Lionettes outscored the Tigerettes 17-10 in the third quarter to extend their lead to nine points, Cannon County was never able to build a comfortable lead.

"When you're up 12 or 13 on somebody you've got to score two or three more baskets and put them away," Dodgen said. "Once we learn how to do that we're going to be a good basketball team."

Cannon County's (17-6, 4-5) largest lead was 46-34 with 3:40 left in the final stanza, but it would deflate to 48-43 with 58.3 seconds left in regulation, the closest the Tigerettes would get.

Erin McReynolds, in front of a green-out crowd raising money for her mother Edith McReynold's lymphoma cancer, scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Kelli Davis finished with 15 points.

Following Friday's game at Smith County, Cannon County host York Institute and travels to Upperman next week.
"We got some road games coming up that we got to get some wins on to get back in the district race," Dodgen said.

CC drops road game at Smith County, 55-68
Lions drop to 4-6 in district play

The Lionettes witnessed a 22-7 run by Smith County Friday night as they fell on the road to the Owls 68-58.
Center Autumn King finished with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field.

Erin McReynolds added 12, Kelli Davis tallied 11 and Kendra Maynard accounted for 10.
Cannon County (17-7, 4-6) led after the first quarter 20-19, but never led at the end of the remaining periods.
The Lionettes currently sit in 5th place inside their district.
