A local man was the victim of a series of unfortunate events between May 19 and May 21.

First, Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Steve McMillan mediated a verbal dispute between Raymond Dale Duke of 5594 Jim Cummings Highway and Kimbel Curtis Pugh of 3506 Jim Cummings Highway on May 19. Duke told McMillan he was driving by Pugh's home as Pugh was mowing his lawn, and a rock came from the mower and hit Duke's windshield, resulting in a crack. Pugh told McMillan he had contacted his insurance company, who Pugh said agreed to pay the claim. Duke said that would be satisfactory.

Two days later, Duke reported on the morning of May 21 the theft of a 1999 Honda 300EX four wheeler (valued at $2,100) and a 1995 Kawasaki KX85 dirt bike ($900) sometime during the previous night. Deputy Reed Bryson took the report.

In other recent reports from the Cannon County Sheriff's Department:

• Apparent gang-related vandalism occurred at 533 Simpson Road on or about May 19. Deputy Matthew Parsley responded to the residence on that date with regard to a vandalism report. Michael Brauchi stated he received a call from his realtor, Bill Jordan, who had received information from a subject named Joe, who lived in the area, and had seen juveniles in the vicinity of the residence and who could have committed vandalism.

Brauchi found large areas of what appeared to be gang-related material spray painted on the back side of the home. Damage was estimated at $600.

• Deputy Anthony Young was dispatched to 2966 Bradyville Road on May 19, 2010 on a report of a suspicious vehicle made by homeowner Sherry Morton. Young checked the residence and found everything to be in order. He later spoke with both Sherry and her husband Russell Morton. They stated there was a screen on the back bedroom window that was bent. They said they had noticed it being like that before.

• Patricia Rains of 10689 Jim Cummings Highway reported being the victim of online fraud on May 19, 2010 at the CCSO. She told Deputy Anthony Young that she had ordered a book on the Internet on May 12, 2010. Since then she had had nine fraudulent credit card transactions on her bank account at Regions Bank. The total of the transactions is $1,490.44. All the transactions look to have been made out of country. She was advised to get a report of this incident for future reference.

• Gregory Jason Porter was arrested at 406 Lester Street on May 19 by Deputy Brandon Gullett on a capias warrant for sell of controlled substance and transported to the Cannon County Jail for booking.

• Deputy Steve McMillan went to 5621 McMinnville Highway on May 20 to take a report of vandalism. Mark Lewis told him that someone had damaged a door on his storage building by knocking off the latch and damaging the door. The storage bin was rented to Altie Mckin of Fayetteville, TN.

• Authorities found a home in "total disarray" and possible drug-making materials on May 19 at the residence of Bobbie Jo Copes, 6629 Dug Hollow Rd., Bradyville. Deputy Anthony Young, Detective Charlie Wilder and Officer Shelly Christensen with Probation and Parole. During the search of the residence, Detective Wilder found four coffee filters with a white residue on them in a cabinet in the corner of the kitchen. A set of electronic scales was also discovered inside a China hutch. Both were taken as evidence and the coffee filters were sent to the TBI lab for identification of the white residue.

• Rebecca Reed of 1553 Bradyville Rd., Woodbury, reported her neighbor's dogs tried to bite her on May 20 as she went to her mailbox. She said one of the neighbor's border collies grabbed her by the pant leg. Deputy Anthony Young spoke with May Weatherly of 1558 Bradyville Road. Young found five dogs at the residence, including four border collies. Weatherly said she would but the dogs in the pen in her back yard. The dogs also had shock collars on them.

• Richard Burton III, 209 Lewis Lane, Woodbury, was arrested by Deputy Anthony Young on May 20 and charged with domestic assault. Burton reportedly became inebriated on Jim Beam and allegedly physically and verbally assaulted the victim.

• Clayton Crawford of 835 Duke Road, Morrison, reported a theft of lights, two extension cords, a crescent wrench and vice grips from a cabin located in the woods behind his home on May 22, 2010. Deputy Reed Bryson took the report. Items were valued at around $125. The theft apparently occurred between May 15 and May 22.

• Charles Douglas Cooper of 6817 Auburntown Road, Auburntown, was transported by Deputy Eric Moss on May 22 from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department where is was turned over to booking for violation of an order of protection.

• Deputy Tommy Barker went to the Rutherford County Jail on May 23 to pick up James Daily of 640 W. Main St., Murfreesboro, to transport him to the Cannon County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of violation of probation.

• Timothy Ryan Lawson, 136 H. Parker Rd., Woodbury, was the victim of an apparent assault on May 22, but he was the one who ended up in jail. Deputy Tommy Barker was dispatched to Stones River Hospital in reference to an assault which had happened off Cavender Road. Lawson told Barker that he had been assaulted, but did not want to reveal the identity of the person, and did not wish to pursue charge. During the course of the interview dispatch informed Barker that Lawson had outstanding warrants in Bedford County. Lawson was placed under arrest and held at the county jail for transport of Bedford County following his release from the hospital.

• James Adam Senart of 2000 Dement Hollow Road, Readyville, reported he heard something in his kitchen at 3:30 the morning of May 23. Senart told Deputy Patrick Fann when he walked out of his bedroom and into his living room he noticed that the entry door to the kitchen area was open and then he saw a man on his hands and knees in front of his refrigerator. When Senart started toward the man, the intruder flipped the dining table over in front of him and got up and ran out the door. Senart said he did not see which direction the man ran because he went to check on his family. Fann did not notice any signs of forced entry or direction of travel. Senart said there was nothing taken.

• Chad Stephen Leverett of 123 June Street, McMinnville, was charged with multiple offenses following an incident after the Centertown Mud Bog on May 22, 2010.

According to a report filed by Deputy Eric Moss, he was dispatched to 2528 Auburntown Rd., Woodbury, in reference to a possible drunk driver who had left the scene. There he spoke with Donald Curlee and Cortney Anderson, who said that while they were leaving the mud bog a red GMC Sierra with tinted windows got behind them and followed them all the way home.

Curlee said the driver of the GMC would run the vehicle up on their bumper at excessive speeds while flashing his bright lights on them. He said the vehicle also passed in front of them at one point and the driver then slammed on the brakes. Curlee said the vehicle was serving all over the road throughout the ordeal.

Curlee said when he pulled into his driveway, the GMC pulled in behind him and struck the rear of his vehicle, backed up and then drove through his front yard, damaging the grass, and then headed back toward Woodbury.

Anderson told Moss that during the time the truck was chasing their vehicle the driver has his window down and was flipping them off. She said the driver was a big man with dark hair, a tattoo on his left arm, earrings and was wearing a dark t-shirt.

Moss radioed available city officers and gave them a description of the vehicle. Later, while at the hospital on an unrelated call, he was contacted by hospital dispatch and informed that city officers had a vehicle fitting the description of the red GMC stopped at Hill Street and McMinnville Highway.

Moss went to the location and observed a red GMC with tinted windows and damage to the front bumper. He also observed the driver fit the description that was provided by Curlee and Anderson. Moss contacted Curlee and Anderson and brought them to the scene, where Leverett was being placed under arrest for DUI. They identified the truck as the one which had followed them from the mud bog to their home. They also identified Leverett as the driver.

Moss took Curlee and Anderson to the sheriff's department where they met with a judicial commissioner. Warrants were issued against Leverett for aggravated assault with a weapon on Curlee and Anderson, one for leaving the scene of an accident, and one for destruction of property.

Leverett was read the warrants at the county jail while he was being booked on the DUI charge.

• Melton Lane neighbors Patricia Collins and Misty Orr became engage in a dispute over mowing on May 23, and Deputy Randy Neal handled the call. Collins, who lives at 136 Melton Lane, told Neal that Orr would not stay off her property. Collins said Orr would mow part of her yard when she mows and said she had asked Orr now to do so. Collins also said she had her property surveyed on April 20, 2010 and that Orr pulled the stakes up before they could get metal stakes driven into the ground on the property line.

Neal then spoke with Orr, who lives at 122 Melton Lane, who said she pulled the stakes up to mow her yard. Neal advised Orr that the Collins did not want them on their property. She said she would. She also asked Neal to tell the Collins to stay off of her property. He went back to the Collins residence and did so.

• Deputy Reed Bryson was dispatched to 2399 Big Hill Road, Liberty, on May 22 in reference to a theft. He was met there by Margaret McAleer, who stated that when she came to the residence she found all the windows open and they had not been left that way. She said she was in the process of moving out of the residence, and had left there the night before at 1700 hours.

Upon returning and looking around the property, they found several items missing, including a walk behind Troy-Bilt mower and a Poulan chain saw. McAleer stated she has been having problems with the landlord and some of the maintenance workers, and that is why she is moving from the location.

• Allen Madding of 7501 Hollow Springs Road, Bradyville, reported to Deputy Eric Moss on May 23 that his neighbor who lives behind him was shooting what appeared to be a rifle and he had heard rounds go over the top of his house. Madding said he had no problem with his neighbor shooting his gun, just not toward his home.

Moss went to 7107 Hollow Springs and spoke with Christopher Haley, who stated that he was target shooting and a round ricocheted. Haley said he would be sure to shoot in a safe direction in the future.

• Deputy Tommy Barker was dispatched to 124 Jamie Circle, Woodbury, on May 23 in reference to a pit bull that was loose and acting aggressive. He spoke with Eric Parenteau who said when he arrive home the white dog was in his yard on McBride Lane. He said his two children were in the yard playing and he told them to get back. He then whistled at the dog to try to get it to come to him so he could return it to the neighbors.

Parenteau said the pit bull began giving his four-year-old son a weird look and at this point it turned to his 10-year-old son and jumped up to bite him as if the dog as if the dog was going for the face area of the child. Parenteau stated he grabbed the dog when he jumped and held the dog in mid air by its neck. Parenteau then took the dog back to the neighbor's yard and tied it to a deck with a rope.

• Deputy Brandon Gullett went to 10342 Jim Cummings Highway on May 24 to serve a warrant on Katherine Y. Goodman. She was located sitting in a chair at the residence and was arrested and taken to the county jail for booking.

• Deputy Brandon Mims responded to an abandoned trailer report on May 24 on North Short Mountain Road and Hunter Lane. Upon arrival he noticed the rear door was down and that the trailer had a flat tire on the left side. The rear door did not appear to have been locked. Mims obtained a V.I.N. off the trailer and it did not return as stolen. The last owner of the trailer was Allan Nunley of 92 Bluegrass, Manchester. After Mims took pictures of the trailer, it was towed to Pelham's because it was blocking the road.
