Donate to Marine's 'Toys for Tots' program

Josh Rooker, Legionnaire with the American Legion Post 279, has volunteered to be the "project officer" for the 2017 Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program in Cannon County.

Josh is the son-in-law of Carol and Mike Reed and the grandson-in-law of the late Paul L. Reed of Paul L. Reed Furniture. Josh is an outstanding Legionnaire, and we are extremely proud of him.

Toys for Tots Program information:

• Condition of toy: New and unwrapped.

• Toys that will be accepted: Tasteful

• Toys not accepted: Stuffed animals, any toy that reassembles a gun, i.e., BB gun, water gun, or nerf gun. Knives are also not accepted.

• Toy limit: 3 toys per child.

• Monetary value of toy: Unlimited.

• Age: Newborns to 17 years old.

• Gender: Both male and female toys are accepted.

• Registration: Registration needs to be done by December 1st. We will do the registration on Nov. 29 which is a Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We will need to verify the family is receiving government aid, Medicare, WIC, food stamps, or in financial hardship. The parents/guardians will need to show proof with documentations with a form of identification such as a social security card or a birth certificate. The parent, guardian or child will need to show a form of identification to receive a toy.

• Registration location: Cannon County Senior Center, 609 Lehman St. Woodbury, TN 37190 The parents or guardians can also make a request through the Toys for Tots web site at https://www.toysfortots.org/request_toys/Default.aspx

• Donations: Cash will be collected at the Paul L. Reed Furniture location. Checks can be filled out to Toys for Tots Foundation. Mail in donations can be made using the or on the Toys for Tots web site. Debit or credit cards can to used to donate on the Toys for Tots web site at https://www.toysfortots.org/donate/Default.aspx. This donation will be tracked by a geo tracker. The geo tracker will get the funds back to the Toys for Tots program in Cannon County to ensure the local population is helped from within.

• Gift cards are not accepted. Clothes are not accepted. The Salvation Army will accept clothes. Crocheted, knitted or hand-crafted blankets are accepted and will be given to infants of parents/guardians who request them.

• Tax write off: Donations will be accepted as a tax write-off. The process for the tax write off is available through a form on the Toys for Tots web site.

The Toys for Tots Program toy drop off sites will include:

• Arts Center of Cannon County at 1424 John Bragg Hwy, Woodbury, TN 37190

• Fred's of Woodbury at 1130 S McCrary, Woodbury, TN 37190

• Cannon County Senior Center at 609 Lehman St, Woodbury, TN 37190

• Delivery of Packages: We will be planning to have the parents/guardians pick up the toys for their children between the dates of December 15th to December 23rd at the Cannon County Senior Center.
