Students in horticulture program at Cannon County High School have been getting their hands dirty preparing for the annual plant sale on April 24, 2010. From planting to arrangement, customer service to sales, the horticulture course teaches students the skills necessary for the workforce.
 
To demonstrate a year of learning and hard work, the Woodbury FFA will host a plant sale and ham breakfast on April 24 from 6 a.m. to12 p.m. “The plant sale is a great opportunity to demonstrate the student achievements made in the horticulture program during the past year," said Courtney Nichols, horticulture teacher at Cannon County High School. This year’s sale will feature a wide variety of annuals. In addition to the sale of plants, the FFA Alumni will host their annual Ham Breakfast. Proceeds from the ham breakfast provide college scholarships for the agriculture students.

According to Bob Melton, Agriculture Instructor, “Last year we gave away around $2,500 in scholarship money.” The scholarships are designed to help the students that are entering college as well as vocational-technical training. Students may also reapply after completion of their first year of school. “We have found that students can get money to go to school the first year, however the money often runs out after the first year”, according to Bob.  
 
Plants that will be available for sale at the school include:
• Impatiens
• Begonias
• Lantana
• Wave Petunia
• Million Belles
• Verbena
• Coleus
• Penta
• Boston Ferns
• Various Vegetables
