The man who was the center of a TBI investigation that concluded in September 2019 got a slap on the wrist in Cannon County Circuit Court Thursday January 7th after he pled guilty to one count of official misconduct and theft up to $1,000. Tony Barrett was indicted September 20th with one count of theft and two counts of misconduct. Barrett, a former civilian employee of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department, had the second count of misconduct dismissed as part of the agreement Thursday. Barrett stole items from the evidence room according to the indictment including several gaming systems, tools and a laptop computer. Barrett was ordered by Circuit Court Judge Howard W. Wilson to 11 months 29 days probation. Barrett was also ordered to pay restitution to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department in the amount of $200.00. Barrett returned most of the items he took but some were deemed as unrecoverable.
