Cannon County has received a state grant to repair the roof on the historic Cannon County Courthouse.

The grant is for $100,000 and was included in the state's budget for this fiscal year. State Representative Clark Boyd reportedly played an instrumental role in securing the grant. Boyd represents District 46, which includes Cannon County.

According to Section 62 Item 53 of this year's state budget, "In addition to any other funds appropriated by the provisions of this act there is appropriated the sum of $100,000 (non-recurring) to the Department of Finance and Administration for the sole purpose of making a grant in such amount to the county government of Cannon County, to be used for roof repairs for the courthouse.

The grant was awarded in August and the funds are included in the county's budget for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2020.

The county is seeking bids for the project through Oct. 18, per an advertisement placed in the Sept. 27 edition of the Cannon Courier:

Cannon County requests bids on a project for the Cannon County Courthouse consisting of roof, gutter, cupola and chimney repairs. On-site review of specific work is highly recommended to ensure that specific construction related issues are addressed. The upcoming project involves improvements for the County Courthouse with construction in fall of 2019 and completion of the entire project by Spring 2020. Specific services to be performed are preparation of bid plans, including historic preservation and Tennessee buildings codes.

Please submit two copies of your bids by 3 p.m. on October 18, 2019 to the County Executive's office. All bids will be submitted to the County Commission and a contract will then be negotiated with the consultant deemed most qualified for this project.
