County General Election 2010: Words From The Winners



Following are statements from the winning candidates in six of the races following the Aug. 5 Cannon County General Election:

MIKE GANNON, Re-elect County Executive:

"I just want to thank the people for allowing me to serve the last eight years and showing confidence in me to serve the next four.

"I certainly don't consider it a right to serve. I consider it an honor and a privilege and it is something for which I will forever be thankful.

"The election is over but I still want to pledge to the citizens that I will do my very best and that every decision I make will come after careful consideration as to what is best for Cannon County.

"I want to continue to try to represent every equally."

LYNNE FOSTER, Re-elected Circuit Court Clerk:

"The people who turned out and supported me were wonderful and I am extremely appreciative of that. I am worn out but I am elated."

DEBBIE MORRIS, Re-elected Register of Deeds:

"I'm so very happy and I'm glad it's over. It's been a tough race. I will continue to do the best job I possibly can. Thank you to everybody who supported me."

DARRELL YOUNG, Elected Sheriff

"It is with great honor and privilege that I have been given the opportunity to serve as Sheriff of Cannon County. I thank each and every one of you who supported me and trusted me with your vote. With this opportunity, I pledge to provide you with a department you can be proud of. I love Cannon County and its people, and I look forward to serving you."

BOBBY SMITH, Re-elected County Clerk:

"It's been a long election. It started in January. But I feel good about the fact the citizens once again trusted me with this office. There are a lot of good people in Cannon County, and we will continue to work hard to serve them."

WAYNE PRATER, Elected Trustee:

"I want to thank the people. There were so many who were working and helping me and I was very pleased with the votes I received. That will humble a man when he is well thought of in that way. I am looking forward to being trustee. It is a very important job for Cannon County and I will do my very best to see that everything is done accurately."
