Crooner Andy Williams said it best; it’s the most wonderful time of the year. So suit the family up because holiday season is once again upon us and one of the best ways to celebrate it is an event that is now two decades in the making.

“A Cannon County Christmas” is set to put up shop in downtown Woodbury Friday, Nov. 19 thru Saturday, Nov. 20.

“I started going around to individual merchants trying to get this going 20 years ago… and I’ve gotten extra help from the Chamber of Commerce over the last several years,” said JoAnn Tate, Creator of “A Cannon County Christmas”.

Merchants will provide refreshments and food for participants all day Friday. In addition, door prizes will be given out along with discounts and homemade goodies.

Around 5:00 p.m., Santa Claus will make his grand entrance into downtown. He will then make his way to the Cannon Courier for pictures and to visit with children and families until 8:00 p.m.

The Push, Pull and Petal Children’s Christmas Parade will kick off Saturday’s festivities. The non motorized parade is open to all kids age 7 and under.

“They can be pushed by an older brother, pulled in a wagon, or ride a bicycle or tricycle,” suggested Tate.

Instead of handing out awards to first, second or third place like other community parades, all entries will receive a prize just for participating.

Businesses will continue handing out prizes, goody bags and providing discounted items throughout the day.

As for this being a landmark year for the event, Tate couldn’t be prouder.

“Oh it means so much! It says ‘hey, you’re doing something right’,” she exclaimed. “A lot of it is just fellowship. It’s a good night and everyone’s happy.”
