Members of the Town of Woodbury Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to approve an ordinance to establish liquor store regulations during its regular monthly meeting at City Hall Tuesday (Jan. 8).

The motion passed on second and final reading and clears the way for liquor stores to operate within the Town of Woodbury. No one spoke for or against regulations during a public hearing on the matter.

Citizens passed a referendum to allow package liquor stores in Woodbury during the November General Election.

“This is not to establish package liquor sales because that already has been established,” Mayor Harold Patrick said. “This establishes regulations, which we did last meeting and it passed on first reading.”

Aldermen also authorized Patrick and the Town of Woodbury to apply for a 2013 Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $500,000 for the purpose of water system rehabilitation. Aldermen also unanimously approved to provide $75,000 local matching funds from the Woodbury Water and Sewer Fund. Much of the work will be replacing water lines in the Short Mountain area.

The Board also approved the consideration of the sale of a vacant lot on Water Street; however, alderman Faye Knox included in the motion that the buyer will be responsible for landscaping to help prevent runoff into the Stones River.

The lot is connected with other lots owned by Brandon Realty, which would like to sale all the lots as a package deal. Patrick said the lot owned by the city appraised for $20,000 although he did not anticipate it selling for that price. The Board voted unanimously to consider the sale of the lot.

Patrick appointed Dotty Duggin to serve on the Wood-bury Planning Commission. He also appointed Fire Chief Bill Johnston, Police Chief Kevin Mooneyham and Alan Paschal, with the Woodbury Water and Sewage Department, to serve on

the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee. Cannon County had

received a grant which includes Auburntown and Woodbury to

help better prepare for disasters. Forming a committee is

one of the stipulations of receiving the grant.

The next regular meeting of the Town of Woodbury Board of

Mayor and Aldermen will be Feb. 5 at City Hall.
