UCHRA announced that Community Champions Week was held as part of its March for Meals campaign.
Staff from the Cannon County Courthouse, Mid-Cumberland Head Start, M.T.E.M.C, Stones River Hospital, Sun Crest Home Health, The Blue Porch, Woodbury Housing Authority, & Woodbury Nursing Home participated in the event to show support for our community’s homebound and hungry seniors.
UCHRA’s Community Champions Week – celebrated during the third week of March included T-shirt sales, donation jars, volunteers and the involvement of Community Champions delivering home delivered meals.
“We are excited about having Mike Gannon participate in our March for Meals Community Champions week,” said Kelly Dishman, Director of Field Operations and Nutrition.”Our Mayor has been involved with our program in the past and the national Mayors for Meals Day is an excellent way to continue our relationship, and gain new relationships with our Community Champions.”
March for Meals is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated by the Meals on Wheels Association of America, which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.
Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, like UCHRA, promotes March for Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. Community Champions Week is a component of March for Meals that utilizes local Mayors, County and State elected officials, as well as numerous community leaders.
About UCHRA’s Nutrition Program for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities:UCHRA strives to improve the quality of life for the elderly by providing sound nutrition meals 5-7 days a week. The home delivered meals program also provides daily contact to individuals that are home bound and enables them access to other in-home services.
