Citizens Express Concern Over New Treatment Center

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following information was found taped to the door of The Cannon Courier the morning of Monday, Jan. 2, 2012:

NOT CONCERNED ABOUT THE DRUG AND

ALCOHOL REHABILITATION CENTER COMING

TO WOODBURY?

YOU SHOULD BE.

WHY?

BECAUSE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS NEXT!

According to their website, Spring 2 Life (www.spring2life.net) has bought the house at 3180 Hill Creek Road, Woodbury, TN, approximately four miles from the courthouse, and intends to open a Christian Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center there.

This house has a septic system and well water. Spring 2 Life intends to house 30 Residents in this house. With laundry (the Residents do their laudry on site), dishes, bathing, etc., we are concerned about wells going dry or being contaminated by the septic system with so many people in one house.

According to Spring 2 Life’s handbook, they do not have locked doors, Residents will not be provided medication (no doctor’s on staff and Residents are not allowed any prescription drugs), and at certain levels of their program, permitted to leave the premises. With permission, they are allowed to run, walk, or jog.

Spring 2 Life will be accepting Residents from all over the country, not just the surrounding counties. On visitation day, the street will most likely be blocked because there is no parking, just a driveway.

Just like the Rock Quarry, NO ONE can help us. BECAUSE CANNON COUNTY DOES NOT HAVE ANY ZONING LAWS, NO ONE CAN HELP US. We are not opposed to a rehab center in Woodbury; we ARE opposed to one in a residential neighborhood, with well water and a septic system.

Again, according to their website, Spring 2 Life (spring2life.net), each Resident will be asked to donate $1,500 a month for their stay at “The Lodge.” One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars, multiplied by 30 (Residents), equals $45,000.00 a month. Cannon County will not see one cent of this money, because Spring 2 Life is non-profit. BUT, YOUR tax money will be going to help this business. How? There will be more traffic on this road and Cannon County will need to maintain the street in front of this house, the police department will receive multiple calls to come to this residence, more trash at the dump, etc.

We need YOUR help and support! The next Cannon County Commissioners meeting is Saturday, January 14, at 10 a.m. Please attend this meeting. All you need to do is show up.

May God have mercy on Cannon County. Who knows what will be in YOUR neighborhood before we have any protection.
