Charges pending in crash

Charges are pending against a Woodbury man involved in a fatal traffic accident Sunday (June 25) night in McMinnville.

Craig Mears, 56, was seriously injured in the head-on crash. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Mears was driving the wrong side of the road on Highway 70S when he hit another vehicle head-on just after 9:20 p.m.

Mears, driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma truck, struck a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by Promise Harrison, 16. Harrison died in the collision. A passenger in her car, Sadie Singleton, 14, was critically injured.

Both girls had to be extricated from the Nissan.

THP investigators said they believe Mears was impaired and had driven several miles on the wrong side of the four-lane before crashing to Harrison's vehicle.

Other motorists had unsuccessfully attempted to flag him down before the crash, the Highway Patrol stated.

All three of the injured motorists were transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
