Want your road name changed? It will cost you.

Cannon County residents wanting to change the name of a county road will have to pay a $100 fee as a result of a vote by the County Commission. Commissioners agreed to enact the fee at Thursday (Nov. 6) night's meeting.

This change was the result of a request by Cannon resident Mike Roberts who wanted to change the name of Lucas Lane to Highpoint Lane. This was the latest of several similar requests heard this year by the Commission.
The fee will help defray part of the cost of researching the potential conflicts in the proposed name.

In the future, anyone requesting a name change will first have to go to 911 Director Roy Sullivan. 911 personnel will then research for potential conflicts. The 911 Board will then make a yea or nay recommendation to the County Commission, which will then vote on the change.

In other action, the Commissioners approved changes to various committees.

Commissioner Brent Bush was added to the Budget Committee. Russell Reed was named to the Ambulance Committee as a replacement for Mark Barker. Todd Hollandsworth was removed from the Insurance Committee while James Holloway, Brent Bush and Russell Reed were added. Former Fire Chief Bill Johnston exited the Fire Board, and new Woodbury Fire Chief Joe Loftus and Commissioner Adam Melton were added.

Commissioner Glenn Steakley was added to the four county Regional Solid Waste Planning Board.

Commissioners also voted to begin the process of upgrading the computer system software at the Cannon County Sheriff's Department. The current software is almost 12 years old and will no longer be serviceable by December.
