Chamber Plans Celebration On The Square July 24

Cannon Countians have another reason to celebrate this July, and the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce is making it possible for them to do so.

With work about to be completed soon on the revitalization and beautification of the Cannon County Courthouse Square, it will mark a new day and Woodbury, and the chamber wants to help the community celebrate the occasion.

On July 24, there will be a dedication of the revitalized Square, featuring arts and crafts, entertainment, food, fun activities for people of all ages, and remarks by local and state officials involved in the revitalization effort.

Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m. The dedication ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. with entertainment starting at 12:30 in the afternoon.

Chamber officials are in the process of arranging performers and vendors to participate in the celebration. Interested parties should contact the chamber at 615-583-2222 or Regina Reed at 615-563-1450.

The celebration was one of several matters discussed Wednesday during the chamber's April board meeting. Other items included:

• A Chamber-sponsored Meet the Candidates Mixer, which is scheduled for Friday, June 18, at the Cannon County Senior Center. The mixer will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., and will afford candidates running in the August 5 General Election a chance to interact with those in attendance.

• The welcoming of Shawn O. Short, Financial Services Representative with Met Life, and Neal Appelbaum, of Reed Realty, as new members.

• Plans for the annual Color of Fall Car Show, scheduled for September 25.

• Plans for the annual Chamber Chili Cook-Off, which will take place at the Senior Center on Saturday, October 30, serving time will begin at 5 p.m. and last until 8 p.m. A Halloween Costume Contest has been added to this year's event.

In addition, a committee was formed to determine the criteria for a planned Chamber of Commerce Web site. Once that has been done, the chamber will seek bids from companies who might be interested in performing the required work.
