CCSO Reports Include Fires, Thefts And Harassments



Following are some of the incident reports filed recently by deputies with the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Reed Bryson was dispatched to 507 Odell Powell Rd., Woodbury, on July 17 in reference to a report of property damage.

He spoke with Clint Higgins, who stated that a vehicle had hit a fence post of his and that the vehicle left paint and a tail light at the scene. He advised that the incident must have occurred between 1:30 and 3 a.m. that morning. He said a neighbor had the tail light at his shop.

Higgins said the vehicle had been down the road at the Jernigan's resident. While Bryson was speaking with Higgins, a neighbor came by and stated the vehicle was on Eugene Reed Road.

Bryson left the scene and went to Eugene Reed Rd. He came in contact with a red Yukon at 2341 Eugene Reed Rd. and ran the tag and it came back to a Jason Arnold on a 1992 green Honda passenger car. Bryson then made contact with Marcia Mayo, who said that Jason Arnold had come to her back door asking for gas. Mayo said she took Arnold to his parents house on Rogers Rd.

Bryson took pictures of the vehicle's damage and went to Rogers Rd. He spoke with Pam Arnold, Jason's mother. She said Jason had just left to get gas. Bryson left there and while heading back to Eugene Reed Rd. he encounted Jason Arnold heading back to the Rogers Rd. residence.

Jason Arnold told Bryson that Ronnie Jernigan, 846 Odell Powell Rd., Woodbury, had driven the Yulon the night before. Bryson asked Arnold for proof of insurance on the vehicle and he said he did not have any. Bryson advised Arnold that the tag did not match the vehicle and he stated he had just bought the car a week earlier. Bryson asked to see the bill of sale and Arnold could not produce one.

Arnold was issued citations for financial responsibility and registration violation. Bryson then went to speak with Ronnie Jernigan, who denied driving the Yukon the prior evening.

Barn Fire

The Cannon County Sheriff's Department is investigating the cause of a barn fire which occurred in a field at the intersection of Cunningham Rd. and Knox Rd. on July 18.

When Deputy Tommy Barker arrived on the scene firefighters were still trying to put out the fire. Barker spoke with property owner Kenneth Jernigan, 4834 Bradyville Rd., Readyville, who said electricity ran to the barn.

Lost in the fire were four adult and seven juvenile goats, various tools, feed, five large gates, an electric fence charger, watering drum, three hand scoops and a water hose.

Jernigan said there was a date to the entrance of the property, and firefighter Justin Higgins told Barker the gate was closed at the time of his arrival.

Jernigan said there have been several vehicles parked across the road from his property at the swimming hole on Knox Rd. He said there was a group of vehicles there on July 17 around 6 p.m. Barker arranged for extra patrol of the area for two weeks.

The sheriff's department is continuing the investigation to determine whether the cause of the fire was accidental or intentional.

Theft Over $500 — Property Recovered

Michael D. Bray, 2754 Eugene Reed Rd., Woodbury, reported the theft of a Remington rifle to the sheriff's department on July 17. He told Deputy Randy Neal the rifle was stolen from his truck sometime between July 3 and July 16. He said he had forgotten he had left the rifle in his truck until he looked in his gun safe and noticed it was not there.

On July 18, Deputy Neal was dispatched to the same location and advised by Bray who stated that a friend came to his house and noticed that the rifle was in the truck and no one was home so he took the rifle so it would not get stolen. He said he was sorry about the mixup.

Violation Of Order Of Protection

Roger Lynn Martin, 1307 Tedder Boulevard, Murfreesboro, was charged with violation of an order of protection on July 16. Court date was set for August 17 and bond was set at $10,000.

Stolen Motorcycle

Freddie Fann, 7415 Jim Cummings Hwy., Woodbury, reported to Deputy Steve McMillen on July 19 the theft of a Yahama motorcycle valued at $1000. Fann said he had the motorcycle up for sale and that it was chained to a light pole near the highway. He said the last time he saw the motorcycle was the night before, and when he came outside that morning the chain had been cut and the nike was missing.

Possible Arson

Deputy Brandon Mims was dispatched to the 300 block of Gunter Hollow Rd. for a report of a house fire at 11:43 p.m. the night of July 19. When he arrived the house had already burned to the ground. The house did not have a mailbox and was not marked in any way. Benjamin Steele, Jonathan Maynard, James Stone and Bethany Simpson were at the scene.

Mims asked the quartet if they had observed anyone running away from the house when it caught fire. Benjamin and Jonathan stated they did not see anyone but did notice that a reddish or moroon-color truck passed by. They said the person driving the truck had called the police and fire departments.

Mims was pulled off the call at that point to go and speak with a complainant about police brutality. Neither Mims nor dispatch was able to find any information on who owned the house. It appeared to be abandoned, Mims reported. Loss is estimated at $20,000.

Dog Bite

Deputy Brandon Mims responded to a report of a dog bite at 935 Simpson Rd., Bradyville, on July 20. He spoke with the family of Hollis W. Nipper and advised them the dog needed to be taken to the Cannon County Animal Clinic for quarantine for a minimum of 10 days. Deputy Brandon Gullett was at the hospital with Nipper while Mims spoke with the family, and all advised the dog had almost severed Nipper's fingers. The dog was transported to the clinic and Nipper ws taken to Centennial Medical Center for treatment.

Harassment

Deputy Brandon Gullett advised Katherine Elizabeth Oneel and David Januscheitis, both of 1579 Petty Gap Rd., Bradyville, to refrain from any contact with Raymond Dale Duke, 5594 Jim Cummings Hwy., Woodbury after Duke make a complaint of harassment. Oneel is Duke's ex-wife.

Phone Harassment

Deputy Steve McMillen served an arrest warrant on Gena Suzann McClain, 7959 Jim Cummings Hwy., Bradyville on July 19 for phone harassment.

Report Of Animal Neglect

Deputy Randy Neal and Lt. Brad Hall responded to a complaint about pit bulls on Auburntown Rd. being neglected on July 16. They went to 821 Auburntown Rd., Woodbury and spoke with the owner, Rachel Edmonds, who said all of the dogs are not hers but added they are well taken care of.

Neal and Parsley looked at each dog and all appeared to be in fine condition. and had food, water and shelter.

Vehicle Damage

Deputy Matthew Parsley was dispatched to 748 Sugar Tree Rd., Liberty, on July 16 in reference to damage to a vehicle owned by J B Gibbs and Sons, Inc. of Goodlettesville.

According to Ronnie Bedwell, he was attempting to leave his driveway when he ran over some tree limbs and brush in his driveway. Bedwell said when he did this a large log struck his back tire and then struck the driver's side front fender, causing over $400 in damage.

Bedwell stated Middle Tennessee Electric had a contracted company remove the limbs so they would not obstruct power lines, but had just left the limbs down in his driveway. Bedwell said the limbs were from the property of Kenneth O. Barrett of 716 Sugar Tree Rd. Parsley advised Bedwell to take civil action if restitution was desired.

Theft From Building

Karen Isner, 3540 Iconium Rd., Woodbury, reported the theft of 300 feet of chain link fencing and fence post caps from her barn on July 15. Deputy Steve McMillen responded to the call. Isner said the property, value at $200, had been in the barn for 10 years as was last observed two weeks prior to the theft.

Animals At Large

Deputy Steve McMillen was dispatched to the area of Doolittle and Pleasant Ridge Rd. for horses at large. On arrival he observed three mules and two horses in the yard at 2624 Pleasant Ridge Rd. He also observed two donkeys and one cow in the road on Pleasant Ridge Rd., while en route to locate the owner of the livestock. After checking two houses on Willow Hollow Rd., he was unable to make contract with the owners of the horses.

Deputy Matthew Parsley was dispatched to 7944 McMinnville Highway in reference to a civil dispute July 19. Upon arrival, Parsley spoke with Betty Brandon who stated that Wendy Jones had been living in a rental trailer since November 2009 and had not paid during this time.

Parsley asked Brandon if she had any type of lease agreement and she stated she did not, and that everything was agreed upon verbally. Parsley advised Brandon that this was a civil issue and that she would need to evict Jones from the property. Both parties agree upon a time of 7 p.m., on July 25 for Jones to have her property removed. Parsley explained both parties of their rights.

Warrants/Capias Served

Deputy Patrick Fann served a warrant on Randall C. Smotherman at 3907 Dickens Hill Rd., Woodbury, for violation of probation on July 13.

Deputy Tommy Barker served a warrant on Lea Ann Farless at 957 Manustown Road for violation of probation on July 13.

Deputies Tommy Barker and Eric Moss went to 544 Taylor Women Rd. on July 17 and served a warrant on Bruce Morton for violation of probation.

Albert Summers served Jeffery Lynn Thomas with a violation of probation warrant on July 13.

Deputies Patrick Fann and Eric Moss went to 2510 Pleasant View Rd., Woodbury, on July 17 and took David Warren Gares into custody on a capias warrant for driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failure of make immediate notification of an accident.

Deputy Steve McMillen was dispatched to the Cannon County Jail for a report of failure to appear for jail time. Upon arrival, McMillen served a warrant on Michael Sanders for failure to appear. Sanders was ordered by the court to report to the Cannon County Jail to serve his 96 hourse by July 16. As of July 19 he had failed to report.

Deputy Brandon Mims served and arrested Chris Sizemore at 490 Sunny Slope Road for bad checks. Sizemore was transported from 490 Sunny Slope Road to Cannon County Sheriff's Department for booking and processing.

Deputy Mims served and arrested Shelia Sprosty at 112 West Adams for a bad check. Sprosty was allowed to drive herself to the Sheriff's Department because she did not have anyone to come pick her up.
