CCHS players to complete for state tennis titles

Cannon County High School tennis players, Region 4 Champions Taylor Meeks and doubles team Brandon Miles and Brady Cunningham, will play in the State (Spring Fling) Tournament Thursday May 24 at the Adams Tennis Complex at 9:00 a.m.

When the Spring Fling High School State Tournament begins next week, the Cannon County Lions and Lionettes tennis teams will be very much involved. Tuesday in Cookeville the teams finished up Region play with qualifying matches in the Region Championship.

Moving on to the state tournament in doubles competition will be the team of Brandon Miles and Brady Cunningham. They advanced via a 6-4,4-6,6-3 win over the Watertown duo of Michael Watson and Preston Tomlinson.

Taylor Meeks will be participating in Spring Fling in Murfreesboro next Thursday. The sophomore moves on after a District tournament championship rematch saw her beat Dani Waisanen 6-0, 6-2. Waisanen won the previous showdown between the two.

The State Tennis Tournament will be held at the Adams Tennis Complex at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro May 22-25th.

Cannon County was involved in the other two region championship matches with Luke Jakes suffering a tough loss to Brian Putnam of Watertown 6-2, 6-3.

Ashlyn Nokes and Lauren Underwood also lost to Tawny Ashworth and Kassidy Parisher 6-0. 6-2, 6-4.
