Courier News Report

The Cannon County Historical Society will meet Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cannon County Senior Center at 609 Lehman Street in the small dining room area. You will enter under the “awning.”

Our featured speaker will be Audrey Rogers Cawthorn (Mrs. Charles). Her subject will be “The Hollow Springs Community” of Cannon County. She will also deal with Gilley Hill, Bradyville and possibly a bit into adjoining Coffee County. Including also Hollow Springs churches, country stores and of course, the Hollow Springs School’s former students, teachers and the Hollow Springs basketball team and the Jimmy Cawthorn Gun Manufacturing Shop on the head waters at Mill Bluff Road. This shop was very active during the Civil War.

Audrey will be assisted with former classmates and neighbors who share stories and “surprises.”

A special “Proclamation” will be presented to Brother Joe Herbert Sissom by the citizens of Cannon County and the Hollow Springs Community.

We will meet at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and refreshments. Bring your favorites and enjoy the fellowship. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Come and bring someone with you.

Looking forward to a great program by Audrey and friends. See you at the meeting!
