Cannon County Sweeps Smith County Again



CARTHAGE — For the second time this season, Cannon County's basketball teams recorded a sweep of Smith County Tuesday night.

Three players scored in double figures as the Lionettes notched their 20th victory.

Cannon County started strong in the girls contest, racing out to a 24-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lionettes were outscored 11-10 in the second period, but rebounded with a sizzling 26 points in the third period to take a 60-26 advantage entering the final period.

The Lionettes coasted in the fourth period to a 74-41 victory as they improved their record to 20-1.

In boys action, Justin Davenport poured in 25 points as the Lions improved their record to 14-7 with a 60-44 triumph over the Owls.

Cannon County led throughout, holding an 18-9 edge after one period and 33-25 lead at the half. The Lions extended their advantage to 48-34 after three quarters.

Cannon County's teams return home for the first time since Jan. 19 Friday night to take on district rival DeKalb County.
