Bradyville Road may be paved next year

The Cannon County Highway Commission met on Sept. 18 with commissioners Doyle Duke, Terry Horn and Jimmy Williams in attendance. Discussion and action included the following items of business:

• Horn was selected to serve as Interim Road Superintendent in the event Road Superintendent Wayne Hancock encounters an emergency situation.

• Accepted a bid proposal to install LED replacement signals in the flashing light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70S (John Bragg Hwy.) and Bradyville Road. Although Hwy. 70S is a state road, the county is responsible for the lights and their maintenance. The work will be completed within 60 days.

• Discussed paving projects for next year. The highway department paved about 11 miles of county roads this year and is looking at about doing the same distance next year.

One of the projects discussed was paving Bradyville Road from the the Hwy. 70S intersection to Old Murfreesboro Rd., a distance of .85 miles. Residents of the area have become increasingly concerned about the condition of the road following the opening of the asphalt plant across the highway from the intersection.

Hancock said his observation indicates "tractor trailers have worn the road out as they come in and out of Parsley's Market. We need to look at that road and see what we can do next Spring."

Hancock asked commissioners to think about other roads which should be prioritized for paving next year for discussion at a future meeting.
