Betty E. Gilley



Betty E. Gilley, 93, of Woodbury died March 25, 2010. She was born June 4, 1916 in Coffee County, TN. Her parents were the late Will French and Lydia "Liddie" (Earls) French.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Dan P. Gilley; sons, Randall Gilley and Almet P. Gilley; grandchildren, Betty L. Gilley, Beverly Gilley and Bruce Gilley; great grandchildren, Kate Gilley and Greyson Barker and all her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Bob & Vicki Gilley of Manchester, Lyle Max Gilley of Manchester and Gary & Melissa Gilley of Lascassas; three daughters, Jean & Bill Goodman of Woodbury, Joy Spain of Joelton and Vivian & Mike Thomas of Wartrace; twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gilley's life was spent in the Coffee & Cannon County area attending many local churches and she was a devout Christian. She worked at the Colonial Shirt Factory for over 30 years. She was very skilled at sewing and quilting. She made all of her grandchildren a quilt. Gardening and cooking were also favorite pass times. She cooked at the Senior Citizen's Center for a long time. Spending time with her family were her most cherished moments.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Joe Herbert Sissom will officiate and interment will be in Gilley Hill Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
