Many different types of products are delivered to customers in Cannon County — food, furniture, flowers and prescription medicine, to name a few.

Soon you will be able to add beer to the list.

The Cannon County Beer Board met Tuesday (Aug. 24) at the Cannon County Courthouse to consider a beer license for an establishment on McMinnville Highway.

The application for the beer permit was submitted by Sterling Parker Jr., 9084 Hollow Springs Rd., Bradyville.

According to the application, Parker plans to call the business Sterlings Package Store. Located at 1821 McMinnville Hwy., the business was formerly known as The Beer Stop.

The property is owned by David Roche, 607 Wildwood Dr., Smyrna.

Parker answered “Yes” to the question on the application which asks if the applicant “ever had a beer permit revoked, suspended or denied in the state of Tennessee.” He wrote that it occurred in 1987-1988(?) for illegal sale of alcohol.

However, because the incident occurred more than 10 years ago, Parker was eligible to receive a permit.

Rebekah Parton, chairman of the beer board, made a motion to approve the license. It was seconded by beer board member Tommy Malone.

Roche is listed as the former beer permittee at the establishment, and also as the owner of the nearest residential dwelling, 1843 McMinnville, Hwy. 70.

Parker submitted the application on Aug. 2, 2010. He also paid a fee of $250 along with the application for the beer permit.

Parker said after the meeting that in addition to selling beer at the store, he plans to offer delivery service. He said he has checked the legality of doing so with both Cannon County and Town of Woodbury officials and was informed there were no laws prohibiting delivery.

Parker said he planned to reopen the business, which closed about three weeks ago, in early September. Parker said he previously operated a package store at the location.
