Barn Fire Kills Three Horses

The Cannon County Sheriff's Department is investigating a barn fire which killed three horses early Sunday morning, Nov. 14.

Deputy Tommy Barker responded to the call at 650 Rogers Road. Upon arrival he could see a barn located in the rear of the residence on fire.

Deputy Barker reported the fire was already fully involved in the center hall of the barn and it quickly spread outward to the stalls and garage.

Deputy Barker then spoke with Jason Arnold, who stated he was lying down inside the residence when he heard an explosion. Arnold said he ran out of the residence and saw flames approximately 20 feet high in the main hall of his barn.

Arnold said he tried to get to the barn to release his three horses, but was not able to due to the heat and flames. Arnold said he moved a dump truck which was parked beside the barn to keep it from burning.

Arnold said that, prior to the fire, the only items in the main hall of the barn were two rocking chairs. He said the barn had electricity running to it, but the only thing left on was a radio.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
