The Auburntown City Council met at 6:00 p.m. January 1, 2013 for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor Turney and all the elected councilpersons were present. Two out of the three people who were approved in December for a seat on the council were present and enthusiastically welcomed. It was understandable why the third person failed to show as a cold, wind-swept rain had fallen all day. The two new members who made it out for the council meeting were Denise Farless and Frank Patrick.

The precious month’s meeting was presented by the city recorded for review and approval. One typographical error was found in the abbreviation of Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation. The correction was made and the minutes were then approved.

The financial report was present in written form for review and approval. Following a short discussion the report was approved without correction. Balance of funds on deposit as of December 31, 2012 was $35,341.67.

The position of fire chief, since the resignation of Chris Blackburn, has been on the mind of all city officials. This is a very responsible position and is not to be taken lightly. The Mayor said that he had talked to several people in and out of the county and each expressed their concern that we would get the right person for the job - one who had the time, desire, and fortitude to stand up under the pressure and do what was right. It can be a thankless position with long hours and no monetary remuneration. It is strictly a “Service-to-the-community” position and it takes a special person to fill it.

The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m. and out into the cold rain we went.

Winfred Gaither,

City Recorder
