Auburntown City Council Proclaims Red Apple Day A Resounding Success

The Auburntown City Council met at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 for their regular monthly meeting. The mayor and all councilmen were present.

The treasurer’s report was given by Rita Davis which showed a balance of funds in the amount of $42,810.09.

The Mayor announced that the bids to run utility water up Hurricane Creek Rd. are scheduled to be opened Thursday, September 3rd.

The Mayor reported that the County has granted a payment of $4,000.00 to the Volunteer Fire Department to help supplement their insurance. Most of the Fire Department’s calls are out in the County (outside the city) and to furnish backup for other fire departments when called upon.

Comments were voiced on the success of the Red Apple Day celebration this past month. It seems, after looking at the financial sheet, not only was the celebration an overall success it was also a financial success. The Mayor stated this could only have been accomplished by a lot of hard work and planning by everyone concerned. However, the Fire Department, Chris Blackburn, Chief, was congratulated and commended for all the work they did.

Tina Fletcher was present and was given an invitation to become a member of the City Council. She willingly accepted the invitation and is to be sworn in at next month’s meeting.

Chris Blackburn, Fire Chief, was present and presented the council with an update on what is happening in the Department.
