 With only three weeks remaining in this year’s remaining in this year’s regular season, less than two-dozen high school football teams are still chasing the dream of completing a season without a loss.

It’s a dream that all 333 high school football teams in the state begin with each and every summer.

The dream of a perfect season is obviously a false one for most teams across the Volunteer State. Each and every year, only a select few have the opportunity to boast of a perfect regular season. Many teams have been known to march through the regular season without a blemish only to taste defeat in the first round of the playoffs. It happens virtually every season. No doubt, it will happen to one of the below mentioned teams again early next month.

6A – Wilson Central lost a heart-breaker to undefeated Beech, 17-14. That leaves Dobyns Bennett, Science Hill, Maryville, Siegel, Dickson County, Brentwood and Whitehaven still undefeated.

5A – Hardin County lost its first of the 2012 campaign, falling to 2A rival Adamsville for the second straight year, 10-9. Beech and Jackson North Side are still perfect for the year.

 4A – Two of the four teams in this classification that entered the weekend undefeated remained that way. Those teams include DeKalb County and Giles County. Covington was not scheduled to finish its game with Haywood until Saturday. Livingston lost to White House on a last second field goal.

3A – C.P.A. and South Gibson were the only 3A teams without a loss prior to last Friday’s games. They are both still without a loss.

 2A –Boyd Buchanan and Dresden both captured wins this past Friday evening and remain undefeated.

1A – Coalfield, Watertown and Moore County came into Week 7 undefeated. Watertown was the only one of the three to lose. The Purple Tigers dropped a Region 4-1A game to defending 2A state champion Friendship Christian.

 Division II – In the AA group, Ensworth and Briarcrest were the only two teams still without the loss. That list has been cut in half. Briarcrest lost its first game of the season to 6A White Station by a 20-0 margin. In Division II-A, U.S.J. and St. George’s were alone with perfect marks. U.S.J. beat F.A.C.S., 49-6. Defending state champion St. George’s had an open date.
