Medford Murphy, age 85, of Liberty passed away Wednesday, August 26 2026 at his home. Born in Cannon Co., he was the son of the late Dewey & Ethel Estes Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Medford Jason Murphy and siblings, Charles Murphy, Ann Hale and Pat Mears.
He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Ruth Estes Murphy of Liberty; children, Trinna (Eddie) Lawson of Liberty & Jamie (Josie Cooper) Murphy of McMinnville; grandchildren, Ashley (Michael Obeirn) Lawson, Jonathan Lawson, & Holly Lawson and Erica Kerjes; great grandchildren, Aiden, McKenzie, Alaiyh, Ethan, Keegan, Brooklyn and Kyra and his sister, Minnie Louise Taylor of Manchester.
Medford was a member of the church of Christ and retired from Cannon County High School where he was a custodian. He enjoyed living life, singing, dancing, telling jokes and listening to his all-time favorite singer, George Jones. He was known for his laugh, always working on vehicles and his love for weed eating. Medford never said a bad word about anyone because "it will always come back to you". Most of all, Medford cherished the times with his family, telling old stories, and making memories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation with his family will be Friday, August 28, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 29, 2026 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery.
