Mrs. Peggy Jean Wilson Tate, 86, wife of Gerald Tate, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026 at her home. She was born March 24, 1940 in the Kittrell Community of Rutherford County. Preceeding her in death were her parents, the late Clinton and Jewell Ferrell Wilson and brother, Ferrell Lee Wilson.
Peggy and Gerald were married for 70 years. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by two sons, Russell (Robin) Tate of Woodbury, Mark (Shelia) Tate of Creedmoor, NC, grandson, Adam (Lauren) Tate and great grandsons, Merritt and Bennett Tate of Franklinton, NC.; grandson, Jason (Amber) Tate and great grandsonCohen Tate and great granddaughter, Lainey Tate, step- grandson, Hayden McKeithan of Bunn, NC., grandson, Brandon Tate of Durham, NC., Foster daughter, Emma Ashford of Liberty; sister-in-law, Ann Bryson of Auburntown and sister-in-law, Rita (Ernest) Davis of Auburntown and brother-in-law, Jeff (Jan) Tate of Christiana. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Peggy was a very active member of the Clear Fork Methodist Church. She became an Avon District Manager for twenty one years in Indiana and in 1989, transfered to Cannon County when Gerald retired. She continued for seven more years, earning many trips and awards.
After retiring, Peggy became a volunteer in 2000 in the Genealogy Room at Adams Memorial Library. She served on a couple of library boards and published several genealogy books before retired after 20 years.
Peggy enjoyed having lots of projects and helping others.
Her family will recieve friends, Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 8:00 A.M. until her time of services.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 Wednesday, May 20, 2026 beginning at 10:00 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Pastor Audrey Martin and Bro. David George officiating. Burial will follow in the Sycamore cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adams Memorial Library Genealogy Room.
